AETHER APPAREL - FALL 2021
THE EDGE OF THE WORLD - ARCTIC EXPLORATION
“If Antarctica were music it would be Mozart. Art, and it would be Michelangelo. Literature, and it would be Shakespeare. And yet it is something even greater; the only place on earth that is still as it should be. May we never tame it.”
- Andrew Denton
For centuries, the Arctic was where no man had gone before, and even until today few have succeeded. Maybe that’s why we feel this strange attraction for these polar regions, a feeling so powerful and lasting that we must express through design. A journey so hazardous that incompetent gears and equipment could turn a trip into an “adventure”. To understand what it takes to endure such extremity of suffering, we studied the great explorers in the history, the Inuit, the Aleut, the gears of then, and the gears of now. The Arctic is alluring, especially to those who haven’t had it.
